Mrs. Alicia Szilagyi
United States

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became involved.

My inspirations come from a number of things. Quiet workers always impress me. They work from the heart and mind and aren't looking for a pat on the back. I am inspired by those who chose not to take the easy path. Hard work always pays off.

What kind of a future do you hope to create through education?

Urban education has always been an issue in my life. I am a product of urban education. It bothers me that most people think urban learners are uneducated and don't want to learn, or don't know how to learn. I hate it when people make excuses for urban learners as well to justify shortcomings.

class="question"How are you taking your classroom global, and what role is technology playing in the process?

I am determined to give my urban learners the tools they need to be successful in life. I facilitate the learning process. I don't just teach to the test. I want my students to have a meaningful education.

Do you think TIG can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.

TIG has helped me get closer to my goals. It helps my students realize their is life outside of the city of Buffalo. It also allows them to see how other people live and learn.
