KOK: Me alegra mucho.

KOK: He tenido influencias de Dalí y Giger.

Interview with an Artist: Kouji Oshiro Kochi

DP: Kouji, many of us at TIG think you are a very talented artist. You have impressed us other TIG members as well, judging by their comments. Your one photograph ‘Brave and suffered’ generated 20 comments, including “That’s an amazing photo with a realistic, true point. Incredible.” How does it make you feel to hear comments like this and other comments from members?

KOK: I feel very glad about it. I think that TIG members really give sense and value to my work, and they encourage me for future creations. It’s incredible that people from all around the world have made comments, it’s great. Thank you very much to all of them and to TakingitGlobal for this chance.

DP: How did you first hear about TakingITGlobal and what made you decide to become a member?

KOK: Henry Rodriguez, a friend of mine that was already a TIG member, talked to me about TIG. So, I decided to become a member with the intention of exhibiting my work.

DP: What media do you use to create your work? Do you have a preferred medium?

KOK: I work with the computer, oil painting, color pencils and pen drawing. I’ve also worked with black and white photographs, Huamanga’s stone sculpture and wood carving. I prefer working with oil painting.

DP: What does creating art mean to you?

KOK: It is said that artistic creation is the process of making objective the subjective; besides it’s a sort of communication. It may display itself as a painting, a sculpture, a song, a dance, a poem or a movie. Could it be a perfume, a delicious meal, a late afternoon on the beach, making love or a stirring mental image? I think it could be. Everything could be art, because art is a personal way of felling the world. It is a special feeling. A sculpture isn’t itself art, it’s just an inanimate object. It must be seen and appreciated by someone to become artistic. Art and creation are inside the minds of those who can recognize it. It’s like being enlightened.
