Gender Equality   Poetry

I lay there, battered and bruised
A shattered crystal
Too quickly dropped, too late caught
Yet you smiled and had your way
I kicked and fought but
You held me down and said:
“It’ll be over soon”
I despised you
You broke me.

…and this remains a familiar story
I hear so often and say
That is not my life,
No monster will have his way
I am strong and not weak and
No person will break me

So as a tribute to the weak
Their story I must speak
Their pain I shall relate

Ye of the weak, take heed
Be not afraid,
For you are not alone
Recognition to you today I give
For being strong and able to live
Bearing the anguish of being broken.
