Adding to: Summary of the Stakeholder Consultations on the Saskatchewan Climate Change Regulations

Over the past two years, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has been working on the development and implementation of a Saskatchewan focused solution that addresses the challenges of GHG emissions and global warming. The development of the climate change program in Saskatchewan is being pursued in an evolving international context regarding domestic and international climate change policy. Due to the current international context, the Province is committed to the establishment of a flexible policy that will align to an array of national or international frameworks that may emerge.

The Management and Reduction of Greenhouse Gases and Adaptation to Climate Change Act and its related regulations are an important component of the province‟s environmental strategy and have been developed to maximize policy effectiveness while balancing a diverse array of stakeholder interests. The objective of the consultation process was focused on consulting with key stakeholder groups to gather their input and suggestions related to the draft regulations.

In order to facilitate the consultation with a range of stakeholders, MNP divided the process into three phases representing the plenary sessions, bilateral meetings and information sessions, focus groups components.(2010)
