Intro to Global Project-Based Learning

The second cycle of TIGed's professional development e-courses is underway, with "Introduction to Global Education" in progress and "Introduction to Global Project-Based Learning" open for registration. Beginning October 26th, this accredited e-course is designed to support teachers in using technology to in facilitate inter-disciplinary transformative global education projects that empower students as agents of change. Here's what some past participants had to say about it:

"This course emphasized the need for keeping things real, relevant and connected to others beyond students' immediate school community. The tools available to extend and connect more freely are also causing me to rethink how I might engage students further."

"[It] helped me to understand how to teach global issues and why to teach them. It has given me ideas of resources and ways I can use the internet to help teach global issues."

For more information, and to register, please visit pd.tiged.org. Discounts are available for groups of 3 and 5, and educators based in Least Developed Countries may apply for tuition assistance. Reserve your spot today!

TIGed Video

We invite you to watch our new Introduction to TIGed video, created to showcase how we help teachers around the world take their classrooms global. We hope you'll share it with your colleagues and friends to help them learn more about everything TIGed has to offer!

Global Encounters Website Launched

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of the new Global Encounters website. Offered by TakingITGlobal and the Centre for Global Education, the Global Encounters program brings together students from across the world through live video conferences that explore global issues and the potential youth have to shape a better common future. Check it out to learn more about the program, explore scheduled events, and register to participate in an upcoming video conference! Video conferences focused on mental health, global dignity day, and the Middle East in transition are just around the corner!

New Mental Health Thematic Classroom

A new TIGed thematic classroom is now available - just in time for World Mental Health Day on October 10th! Developed with the support of the Sunlife Financial Chair in Adolescent Mental Health, and with resources provided by the Canadian Mental Health Association, this content-rich online classroom helps middle and secondary school students learn about brain functions, specific mental illnesses, the social contexts of mental health, and more. Two associated trivia games, Brainwaves and Mind Match, were developed to complement and reinforce the activities of the classroom. Check out the landing page for more information on the Mental Health Thematic Classroom today!

TIGed Site Improvements

TIGed has gone (even more) multilingual! A new multilingual feature in the virtual classroom allows you and your students to view and input content in more than one language and personally set the language of the class for individual use. Especially beneficial to language classes, this feature will also open up possibilities for collaboration across borders, cultures and languages more generally! To enable it, go into your classroom settings and, under "Basics," set the language to "Multilingual" before clicking "Save all" at the bottom of the page.

Another great new virtual classroom addition is the "Public to School" feature. As always, teachers can keep their classrooms private from the general public, but now they can choose to share their classes with members of their school. This makes it easier for teachers to collaborate across disciplines and keep up with classes within the same school. To enable this feature, select the "Public to School" security option under "Basics" in your classroom settings.
