With the most elegant gait, Fiona entered the lounge and nonchalantly passed Fred and Mrs. Watson. They knew it was a sign of no good. The enchanting green eyes were oozing with a strange potion of hunger, revenge and pity. After taking a view of the spacious lounge, Fiona sighed and closed her eyes. In no way did she want Fred to peruse the novel emotions she knew would be spilling out of her eyes, the windows to her heart!
The shimmering white Watson mansion was bustling with the noises of frustrated men at work. Last evening's dinner had been grand but now its remnants made the estate look like a sheer mess. Men from the catering, lighting, drapery, laundry and furniture departments were shouting at the peak of their voices. Amid all this thundering was Fredrick Watson, directing the confused flock like a traffic sergeant and by late afternoon no sane person could guess that over two hundred men and women had eaten and drank and kissed and danced and laughed and chattered under the magical chandeliers. The orchestra was great, the food toothsome. Even the insatiable Mrs. Lockhart had confessed that Connecticut had never seen such a show of money, music and musk in ages. The party was over, the purpose achieved. Mrs. Watson had literally filtered out a match for her Freddy.
Jessica Willis was a Wellseley graduate. The previous night she had simply melted into the arms of Fred. They made a perfect couple. After dinner, Amelie the housekeeper, had witnessed Fred and Jessica disappear into the backyard. Though the rest went unseen, his radiant face did not go unseen. Mrs. Watson saw it and smiled. Fiona saw it and frowned.
This tormenting feeling of being neglected had struck her so hard as never before. She was a crushed entity. For the past two years only Fiona had been fondled, caressed and embraced by Fred. She was aloof and exclusive. But the unwanted appearance of Jessica Willis and the shallowness of Fred had hurt her. A wild malice, a feline revenge flared in her. She was ready.
Fiona opened her eyes. Though uninvited, she walked towards Fred and took a comfortable seat between his thighs. The familiar feeling of his touch, the warmth of his lap triggered her fury.
In an instance Fiona lept and flashed her sharp-clawed paw across Fred's face. Fred screamed with anguish. Mrs. Watson gasped with horror. Fiona chuckled with satisfaction. An eyeball lay on the Persian carpet and a Persian cat meowed with glee and relief. She chewed and gnawed at the eyeball and walked out of the room with the same elegant gait.
