I am incredibly frustrated that things like this can happen in the Western World, in Denmark. This is not a precedent that I would like to see being set for protests in other cities that allow innocent people to be held by the police. We may think that twelve hours is not that much or can be justified,
but can we agree to allow innocent people to be held in police
custody for any amount of time?
My group was peaceful, as were the five-hundred others who were arrested on the street I was in. This completely colours the purpose of the march and the legitimacy that climate change activists seek. We are Master's students and scientists
and we want our governments to take action. We do not want to participate in violent protests and we do not want to be arrested. What happened yesterday in Copenhagen is completely unreasonable and we should never support laws that allow innocent people to be held in police custody for any amount of time.
I would like the world to know that the police treatment of us was unreasonable and the message that they are sending about us to the international media is completely untrue. The march should have gone on without a hitch. Front-page headlines should not be about the 1,000 arrested in Copenhagen.
