July 2009: Animal Rights
The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights was adopted by the United Nations in 1978, but many practices are still used today which are cruel to animals.
In the next issue of Panorama, you will have the opportunity to think about our relationship with animals and the effect that our daily actions have on them.
Consider, for example, practices such as factory farming, animal testing and the use of animal parts in clothing and make-up. Are they necessary practices? What are the ethical debates surrounding them? How about those occasions when humans and wild animals are forced to compete for the same resources? Would you think it more important to safeguard the habitats of wildlife or to protect the land rights of indigenous communities? Are there any other burning issues relating to Animal Rights on your mind?
Share your thoughts by submitting to this issue of Panorama Zine. We will be accepting contributions until July 13th.
