Since the last seven days I have been facilitating leadership training workshop in a rural locations (kotli ghasi). It has been a very moving experience yet energizing as I witnessed the tremendous energy, enthusiasm and resilience among local youth to bounce back once they have been provided the opportunity.

The overall situation at the location is extremely pathetic. Health, environment and educational facilities are very poor. Majority of the people are earning their income through livestock. Most of Children of the community are not going to school on account of poverty and lack of friendly learning environment. Teachers of the government schools are ill-equipped to handle children hence use aggression to control children resulting in continuously decreasing the number of students.

This time when I went into the community I did not contact the stakeholders because I feel that it often avoids us to reach to those who are in distress situation. Believe me the strategy went very well. I identified 30 most deserving children in the communities who are extremely poor to start with. These children showed great interest in the training and shared the sessions with the other youth after the first day. On the second day, there was a big crowd standing outside the place. I thought the community had gathered to stop me from doing training but the situation was quite the other way round. Most of them came to me and requested to include their children in the training and I was really puzzled how to include all those children in the session because of lack of resources. I decided to conduct another training workshop after the EID. On the third day, a few parents and teachers also came to observe the session and after that they showed their complete cooperation during the rest of the days. The best outcome of the training is the emergence of a local youth group who has taken the responsibility to carry forward this training and continue to work for the development of their community. I have shared this all with you because I have tried to venture a different strategy of initiating action at community level by involving those who are very hard to reach instead of stakeholders who I sometimes feel are biased and create impediments to reach deserving people.
