Peace & Conflict   Opinions

War destroys and does not built. Not minding the position of either of the parties on the continuum of victory and defeat, non leaves the War arena unscratched. The situation is even more pathetic when the youths are drag into political crises they no little or nothing about.
For over thirty years, Angola is immersed in political upheavals leading to economic prostration and the destruction of lives and property, the value which experts say "can not be quantified in monetary terms at the moment.
.

Nevertheless, it is not out of place to maintain that the situation in Angola is still dicey. President Santos must show the commitment to initiate economic, political and social reforms that would lead to;
1. Resettlement of about 4million displaced persons.
2. Strengthening economic recovery programs thereby putting the nation on the path of growth and development.
3. Engaging in food programs to handle the hunger ravaging the post war state.
4. Organize and conduct elections before long so as to give the nation a face lift that would place the country in the position to join the committee of democratic nations globally.

The Oil and Diamonds resources available in the country would provide government with the needed muscle to carry out these reforms. Only if the government officials show commitment to minimize mismanagement and corruption. Officials will also have to exhibit values such as accountability and transparency in doing government business, which would be in direct consonance with the principles of NEPAD.
Youth in Africa must look forward to the permanent returned of peace in Angola and other uneasy parts of Africa. I am sure this synopsis is thought provoking, and African Youth Assembly provides us the chance to dialogue more on this come 2003. I love to see it! Friends Keep me informed.
