Every time I think of my native city Snezhinsk, I do feel inspiration and a strong invisible connection with my birthplace, no matter where I am. Something is telling me that, wherever I go, this place will always be waiting for me. The images and fairytales of my childhood are all still here. Even the air is breathtaking here, filled with morning freshness of the woods and the smell of the lake. Everyone who lives here must be a poet or a musician, this beauty has to be praised in the heart of every person in Snezhinsk. That is why I want to tell the world about my small city, about my tiny piece of Russia. I want to share what I feel with everyone. If every person on Earth appreciated his home city at least this much, the world would be so wonderful!

In 1957, 47 years ago in the Ural taiga, where the mountains lie in fog and winter lasts for six months, on the shore of the beautiful lake Sinara a new city was born to host the future scientific research center. Today it is a wonderful cozy city with a poetical name Snezhinsk (Snow City) in which 50 thousand people live and work. The atmosphere here is special; I’ve never been to another place like this. The existence of Snezhinsk had been kept in secret until not long ago, and the city is still closed, so no foreigner can enter it. It doesn’t mean, though, that we are ‘cut off’ from the rest of the earth. We move and discover the world as much as we want.

Our people are the treasure of the city. Some have devoted their whole lives to making Snezhinsk the wonderful city it is now. Many constructors, scientists, engineers, workers of the future from other Russian cities came in response to the call of their hearts. The Scientific Research Center was established here in 1955. Nowadays more than half of all citizens of Snezhinsk are somehow connected with the Center. The All-Russia Research Institute for Technical Physics has made an enormous contribution ensuring the development of Russia’s defense. The history of the Scientific Research Center has been for the last 50 years the history of exceptional service in the national interest. The scientific potential of our specialists is highly appreciated all over the world.

Culture and education play essential roles in people's lives here. The city's inhabitants have always felt the need to reveal their creativity and skills. I heard a person call Snezhinsk a seed-plot of talents and gifted young people. The city does a lot to promote the cultural development, spiritual enrichment and excellent high-school education for its people. Children in Snezhinsk are given possibilities for revealing and developing all kinds of talents and interests. I, for instance, first went to a really unique kindergarten where I started learning English at the age of four, then to school where I had the possibility of learning three foreign languages. I attended an art class, a vocal studio and graduated from the music school.

But there probably is another catalyst that makes people, especially young people, work harder on themselves. We’ve had enough of being called a ‘village,’ of the stereotypes that the inhabitants of small cities like ours hardly ever reach success anywhere else. All that makes us do is achieve more and prove them wrong. The name of Snezhinsk is now known on the international level.

The principle of life for us is "My city is my home" so people in Snezhinsk do everything possible in order to keep the city clean, beautiful and organized. It really does feel like home here. Besides, Snezhinsk is surrounded by remarkable nature. The Sinara Lake, which is situated right on the territory of the city, so one can admire its beauty even while walking along the streets, and the birch-woods nearby let us appreciate and enjoy the rural beauty even more. The morning freshness of the woods and the smell of the lake…

The official center of Snezhinsk is Lenin Square. On big holidays, like City Day, Victory Day or Graduation, people gather in the square. On days like that I love being there, among people, because the atmosphere of friendship, closeness and something common in all of our lives is tremendous there.

Snezhinsk is gorgeous in autumn, when the sun is sparkling in the yellow leaves of birch-trees. In winter, when everything is covered with fuzzy sparkling snow, Snezhinsk looks especially beautiful. Real spring comes here only in late April, when the snow completely melts, and new green leaves, grass and tiny yellow flowers appear. In summer the city is filled with bright colors of flowers, grass and the blue sky. Snezhinsk is marvelous all year round. Snezhinsk is special. Snezhinsk is dear to my heart and to the hearts of many others. I wish you could see it. I wish you could meet the people. I wish you could sense the morning freshness of the woods and the smell of the lake…
