He loves me and I know it.
In all he does, it shows.
Each time he says 'I love you,'
He says it as if I've never heard the words before.
I love him too and tell him so.
I know this love we share is a rare gift from heaven
That God has given to show His love.
It merits special care and thanksgiving.
There are those who would give their souls
To hear the words 'I love you' honestly spoken…
Many whose hearts are broken.
(In fact, I'd say, it's more common today
To see broken hearts than whole).
Knowing this, I'd be a fool to forget,
Or let the dust of time obscure what is mine.
For a while I did forget.
But, I was shown and now
I'll no more take it for granted.
And so in the night I awake to the sight
Of sleepy eyes gazing at me.
I wonder 'what does he see?'
What he says is 'I love you.
You're beautiful...so precious.'
(Imagine after so many years,
He can still say this and mean it).
I smile and say, 'I love you too,'
and we fall back into sleep.
But, deep in my heart,
I still keep those words safe.
In the morning we wake,
And I take the time to give thanks
And pray for his safety and peace.
We go our separate ways,
But I know that when the day ends,
He'll return once again to me...
Because he loves me.
