The war against terrorism is a war born out of ANGER AND FEAR. Fear of the following: loss of investment; loss of political power; loss of economic power; loss of military superiority; and loss of human lives. The result is a war on humanity (which we presume to protect and preserve). A case of man’s inhumanity to man. It has lead to the colossal loss of lives and properties. The youths are caught in this inferno of jungle justice. Also, the youths (and children) are highly affected but rarely considered. This has lead to the right to death via patriotism and religious zealotry (rather than life); right to be expressionless (rather than expression); right to slavery (rather than liberty). The laws we make to ensure that we live in a peaceful world are the laws we break to cause a violent world.

I think that the greatest problem of man is knowledge (though it has its own good sides). This is ironic because some of the knowledge we apply to protect our rights and preserve our existence (mankind) is the knowledge of destruction (which arises from anger, hatred and fear and leads to rebellion, violence and war).

From the events that are unfolding in this new millennium, it is easy to see that the greatest FEAR of man is the presence (or stockpile) of Weapons of Mass (Man’s) Destruction which he has been building over the years for his protection. From the look of things, if nuclear weapons get to the wrong hands, then man will be faced by the very terror it seeks to protect it self from – A NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST. Remember the popular saying, “if man does not put an end to war, war will eventually put an end to man.”
Sadly, youths are the manpower used to produce these weapons, fight these wars and destroy the world (they are suppose to inherit). What a shame! What an indictment on our political leaders who would not sit down to dialogue for peace and live it. What a shame on our religious leaders who would not preach the message of peace and live it for the benefit of the youths (their own children). A Real and Long-Lasting Global Peace can be achieved only if the world makes genuine effort towards poverty alleviation (or eradiation) and disease control. In other words, the richer people and countries should share their wealth with the poorer people and countries and contribute more towards research into food production and disease control. They should stop sponsoring rebellion in other countries for their selfish gains (making profits through selling arms and ammunitions). They should also stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons. They should not forget that the depletion of the Ozone layer, which is inimical to man’s survival, is a direct result of too much industrialization.

Nevertheless, the youths are ready to make that change our political and religious leaders could not achieve. We are ready to work as a team to put pressure on our political and religious leaders to consider our future and make things right. We are ready to fight (via non- violent actions) with the instrument of Globalisation for our Mobilisation that will lead to the Realisation of a Peaceful Civilisation in the 21st century. This is the millennium for the youths to make that necessary change for the good of mankind. It is a millennium for the youths to shun vices and the use of violence to settle ideological or natural differences. It is the millennium for the youths to embrace and promote the use of constructive dialogue, critical reasoning and tolerance in conflict prevention and resolution. These millennium goals can be achieved if we trust in the Universal Truth of the Sanctity of Life and the Equality of Rights for the preservation of mankind.

Suffice to say, “THERE CAN BE NO HUMAN RIGHT IF THERE IS NO HUMAN LIFE”.

Writer Profile
George Osaremen Alenkhe

A realist and optimist in a world filled with pessimists and sadists. A writer with a passion for youth emancipation and empowerment irrespective of gender, tribe, language or race. One who believes that for every human action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (good, bad or ugly). I like reading, travelling, singing, listening to people and music, playing games and watching nature.
The more we talk, the less we fight, the more peaceful the world and the happier we become.
