The Songs We Sing Printvriendelijke Versie AFDRUKBARE VERSIE
by Petra Okeke, Canada Jun 24, 2004
  Poëzie
 1

We sing the songs our elders sung
Today and every other day
They sang real loud
And beat their chests
To every word they clung

They stood by it and died for it
The vows that they
With songs did take
So we can be alive today
Oh lives they did forfeit

We sing the songs our elders sung
But what they mean we do not know
Our voices rise
Our eyes are shut
But to our hearts they all but sunk

I am a Nigerian and back home there is so much pain and sorrow for the African child. My aim is to help in the little way that I can, in the battle to improve the situation of the African child. I know that I cannot do much, but I also know that whatever I do will be valuable to someone somewhere. I hope to be able to open the eyes of the people to pains of the children and in that way contribute the little that I can in the fight against the abuse of the African child.
