The basic kind of outer clothing of karakalpaks, as well as at all peoples of Central Asia are dressing gowns (shekpen, shapan). Shekpen-the dressing gown house- made cloth, till now meets at old men. It usually put on atop of other clothes for protection against a rain, a dust and a snow. As old men speak, shekpen was always done of the camel wool and referred to jun shekpen, shan shekpen.

Shapan (dressing gown). The basic kind of outer clothing of karakalpaks. On breed the dressing gown reminded dressing gowns of Uzbeks of the central areas of Republic Uzbekistan. The originality was given to dressing gownes with the used color and figure, the manner to quilt a fine stitch along on figure narrow strips. Man's and female shapan differ under the name and breed. So females shapan referred to – misek shapan, and man's it is simple shapan or duhat shapan.



The kok koylek, an ancient celebratory dress of the girl and the bride tailored from dark dark-blue house-made matters. A collar low, standing. Before a dress the seam a cross is decorated with an embroidery color threads.
