What inspires you?

There is so much that has enriched my life, in spite of the Liberian civil crisis.
As a child, I should have been watching television; I should have been in school learning biology to understand how cells developed and how they die, sociology to know how social factors alter our behaviors or psychology to understand how war affected perceptions but the war taught me the opposite of what I wanted to learn. I wanted to learn peace, fellowship, and good deeds. I ended up in restaurants seeking crumbs, in trash seeking bottles to sell in other to purchase cookies. My experiences have inspired me to look back and move on to pursue education. I’ve contemplated the things I’ve been through. There is nothing I can’t do and nothing is difficult to overcome, kudos to Dad. Today, I am a graduate student of Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota USA.

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

Africa, as I have come to realize, prepared me well in terms of discipline. I presume I owe all that I am in personality to Africa despite the fact that I was treated wrong, the Liberia’s years of war interrupted my childhood and schooling. Supporting education in Africa is my personal goal. That is one reason why I founded the Federation of African Student Unions to convene African students in, and around Africa to support the educational development in Africa. I perceive the young ones who are supposed to be attending schools are working themselves to take care of the elderly, don’t get me wrong it is not bad, but it is wrong to extend to affecting children’s education and future. I’ve been in this situation myself and that is what lead me to found FOASU to help support academics.

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

A good leader is difficult to find, cheap to hire and quick to train. Everybody presumes leadership is a cup of tea, but that is an understatement. A good leader at his best displays humility at all time, restraint where it is necessary, adopts changes when things are not going well and admits to faults even when it is difficult to. A good leader sees things from a group perceptive and a descriptive point of view--we ought to do this! Instead of asking, "What must I do?" a good leader must ask, "What must we do?" A good leader is positive, he sees problems as an opportunity. A good leader is shy because he would not do anything to crucify his shyness because his thoughts are always about the people’s good and preserving his image. A good leader makes plans, communicates well, achieves results and perceives everyone as himself.

Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.

TakingITGlobal can take our concern to the world and help us network with others. Networking is vital for any individuals so to speak, when one person reads, it is feasible that that person would share what s/he reads with another and that would provoke a chain reaction, sooner or later everyone will be aware of us and our goal would be achievable. The goal is not achieved until we see results, and results in this case are measurable by visitors.
