What inspires you?

The people around me who strive to make a change in our complex world these days. From the volunteers in my community who sincerely contribute their efforts, to icons like Muhammad Yunus, they all serve as an inspiration to me.

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

Through Taking It Global, I became aware of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Upon realizing that my country, Malaysia has not achieved the target for MDG 6, which is Combating HIV/AIDS, I decided to initiate a community project, First AIDS Kit that empowers youth to become peer educators, providing their peers appropriate info on HIV/AIDS.

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

Leadership is a subjective matter. I'm pretty sure everyone believes that leaders should have qualities like sincere, humble, and straightforward. Definitely, in order to be a good leader we have to posses those certain attributes. However, from my experience a leader has to be versatile and demonstrate flexibility, because plans might change and unexpected situations might occur. Therefore I always remind myself to 'expect the unexpected'.

Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.

TIG definitely helped me to make the project possible --- The tools and resources like Guide to Action, GYCA toolkit for youth response towards HIV/AIDS. Before I joined TIG I never thought that we, as youths would have to the capacity to make an impact in our community. TIG has build my capacity, and thru TIG I also got to attend the Innovative Students Forum sponsored by Microsoft in partnership with TIG. It was also then the idea of implementing First AIDS Kit project was realized.
