What inspires you?
I am inspired by things like the "clean city" law in São Paulo that bans outdoor advertising. Not only because I think there is alot of advertising pollution around the world, but because it proves to me that a big change (that I previously would have thought that rich corportations could have stopped) can happen.
Like it has been said, people create change, and we are the people. I think there's a lot of power and inspiration in realising that.
Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.
An issue that I am interested in is the marginalization of people who live in poverty, and of those people, especially youth.
I was involved in highschool through a group called Action Through Activism, which was mostly just a friend and I, and every chance we got we would raise money for an organization called "Invisible Children". This organization had been started by three youth, and focused on young people affected by civil war who are "invisible" in Uganda. We also showed their documentary at lunch and held discussions on it, and after teachers saw our efforts, our highschool was supportive enough to let us present to every English class in the school about the war in Uganda, and the children affected by it.
I worked part-time for Creating Local Connections Canada, which is a project of TIG, and continuing on in the spirit of making youth visible!
Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.
A good leader is someone who doesn't blindly make decisions based on what is of benefit to them personally. I think a good leader is also a good listener.
I think too often people look for good speakers in a leader, like politicians, but how well can they listen?
Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.
I think TakingITGlobal is already helping me achieve my goals. It's a great resource, and it connects me to interesting people who also want to see community growth.
