Poverty in prosperity
The reality of some people's existence
Even in prosperity, poverty is a reality
In countries far and near
In countries rich but poor
In countries young and old
In countries big and small
In countries white, black or brown
In countries even as they are rich
Poverty is a reality

Poverty in prospertity
Even as nature has blessed the land
Even as you scratch the ground to nature's gifts
Even as the wealth from the gifts abound
Even as the heads of state rejoice
Even as the crumb eludes the poor
Even as the country is rich anew
Poverty is a reality
