In the light of the recent terrorist attacks in the USA, the world begins to wonder how such an act can be carried out. Thousands of innocent people were killed, because a couple of people had no value for human life.

I had been to the World Trade Center a few years back and was awed by its immense structure, but I was awed more when I saw the massive structure collapsing in a matter of seconds!!! People who are behind this attack have shown the world by committing such an act that they care nothing for anything else (minus their 'cause'). Greed, indifference, selfishness etc.... are what this 'cause' represents. Some people celebrated the attacks while other people nod their heads in agreement with the terrorists.

This isn't about religion, it is about brutality, cruelty and fanaticism which is dangerous. Terrorism and terrorists have quelled the peace around the world. The most successful of all freedom struggles (or any struggle) have been those which were non-violent in nature. Violence only begets violence, and it isn't an effective way of proving a legitimate cause.

A banner that I read somewhere said, "An eye-for-an-eye attitude will only make both people blind", and this is very true. The possibility of US strikes on Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia, has raised harrowing side effects. Pakistan, caught between the Taliban and US has internal problems caused due to opposition to a US strike and hence the country is in a very delicate position.

Terrorism in any form does not represent a good cause and people should shun terrorist activities. As the world mourns the dead in the New York and Washington disasters, we must take greater resolve in ensuring that such an attack on civilization must never take place.

I will leave with a thought from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to ponder over..

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction. The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Let's calm down! But, REACT and TACKLE the problem
Pedro Fernandes de Toledo Piza | Mar 15th, 2004
At first, I would like to show my sadness for those people's families who died last week March, 11 2004 at Madri subway explosion. In a second point I must say that we (youth) have to face the problem of terrorism nopt only as regional, because it is a fact that nowadays this matter is international and there are no political or physical frontiers to stop terror. But there are economic and social ways for us to stop it! At moment, we can't act xenofobical regarding arabian people 'cause it will raise an angry that's not fair with them. But, in my opinion, if the authorities area sure about Bin Laden involvement in Madri's explosion, the countries ought to face the question as an international peacemaking process and only use economic barriers to Afeganistan and countries who has shown disrespect for International Law and Human Rights. However, in the other hand, it shouldn't be used as xenofobical instrument to attack innocent people as Bush has doing since this ### became the president of USA. The point is: an youth effort to tackle this question openning a dialog with politicians of different nations, having in mind that there's no religion, political matters, or any fact wich motivates violence! I appeal for those who work in government bodies that spread no ont only a message of peace, but put it practice everyday in your life. Working togheter and very hard, we can win this battle against terror but in other way than that spoted for Bush, who doesn't know anything about International Law and Human Rights. Pedro
