| For J.T Tom-West (A Poem From a Fan)

When the news came that unfaithful day:
“A Nollywood actor died in auto crash”
Little did I think it was true
Let alone being you, J.T Tom-West.

I cannot realize how I felt
But I remembered I took the news, yes the news,
To friends whose solace turned solitude.

 They remember you through
 One of your famous films
That brought you fame in Nollywood:
 “State of Emergency”.

But I was surrounded with grief of this
Like a town of Odi or Ekiti
 Surrounded by armed forces.

I admired you not like a suitor
 To his mistress, but like
A solicitor to his shelves of books,
Albeit just like a dew you vanished,
And hadn’t we the time to meet.

Now I am married to memories:
 Sweet and bitter tales of life;
Memories of how life could be fine
And funny: your exit from this world-less cave
 Is painful!

This is a road we iterate must journey
But every wayfarer comes home with different news.

Yours is bitter, dying in the land of plenary
But where lack of macadam maintenance
And lack of intense hospital equipment
Have many men seen their untimely deaths.

You would not have died! But what can I do?

I discern you cry. I discern you feel bad.
And I wish I could grow to a god.

 Just bear it,
We all, dead and alive, hope like the phoenix.
