Like This, Like That

The day I told her, “I’ve fallen in love”
She jokingly replied, “Did you fall
on the floor or on the ground,
Or on the sand or gravel?” I laughed
And laughed and restrained my laughter
But could not and would not restrain
My love for her.

The day I told her, “I love you”
She replied, “Why do you say you love me?
Are there no other girls you can see?”
But I had to tell her, “No one on the earth
Knows where he/she would meet his/her better-half”.
Is this not true?

The day I told her, “You are my love”
She replied, “Is it because of my laps
Showing on my picture you said so?
I heard a story of a man who saw
A girl’s picture on the magazine and said:
‘I love this girl! I want her to be my wife’.
But I had to tell her no, but because,
“She looks witty, comely and homely”.

The day I repeated, “I love you”
She replied, “If you say you love me
You are endangering yourself”.
I widened my eyes and winced
And had to tell her,
“If loving you is a crime,
Then, I am liable to be thrown
Into the prison, by no one else,
But you” because I dream of her.

The day she replied was, A LAUGHTER,
And we had to continue.

Though one could see me walking,
But I am not walking with a soul,
She has stolen my soul,
But far from being a thief.
