East:
Full of happiness, a cyclist drives beside the river,
the surrounding are extremely green and quiet
No cars, as almost no one would be able to afford one.
Not many houses have electricity or tap water,
it seems as if the world has not changed for the last century,
People belong to each other and families would not
survive without helping one another.
West:
Mainly unhappy as it longs to have more and more materialistic luxury.
People get in debts because they must have everything on the market.
The surrounding is grey and dull. Too much traffic and another road which has to be build
Everyone longs to have an expensive house, though they likely will not get it
The Western world is full of new technology and people cannot get enough
Loneliness is pre-programmed due to a lack of communication skills and
people would rather stay alone than help another.
Are you really sure that you envy the Western countries, East?
Please stay in your wonderful innocent world. You are much better off
and we really envy you, to live such an idyllic existence!

I came across a few outstanding people in my life from various nationalities:
An Ethiopian guy who only wanted to learn as much as possible from all over the world to help his country to have a better standard of living. My eyes were always on his lips to learn all about the interesting things he has explored.
A Japanese guy who got one of my best friends. A very different culture than ours, yet so close to ours. I really love this guy and his wife so much.
On our honeymoon we made a world trip and the poem "East vs. West" was actually what I felt while visiting Vietnam and Cambodia.
"Impression on Mind and Heart" is just a life experience. I came across a Swiss guy with whom I always refused to dance Salsa until the day we met in a Restaurant. A great dancer indeed and a wonderul person.
One of my greatest experience is my dear friend from iceland. I love her and her family with all my heart. My best friend. In honor to her wedding as a bride maid, I wrote the poem "Switzerland calls Iceland"
Last but not least, I want to mention my husban. The essential part of my life. I love him with all my heart, he is the air I breath in and my everything I live for. No poem on this toppic - too private:-)

east v west Kasope | Jul 21st, 2006
there really is a sense to the poem..the question is, where exactly is this east. if the east refers to africa or asia, then the accurate picture will be one of a combination of both east and west. therein lies the issue..the east is alas, non-existent

I wish the literary EAST in this poem will understand that they still have nature as it was. But due to 'human' greed they dream WEST so much that their values are effacing. Nice poem indeed.
ENCROACHMENT! Zainul Abedin | Jul 7th, 2007
The east and west now seem amalgamated in pockets.Globalaztion and trade have carried technolgies to the remotest corners of the world and the materialistic view about the lifestyle has enhanced.Such encroachment may be good and bad simultaneously. However, your point is valid for most of the world.Congrat for the precious observation.
