Peace & Conflict   Opinions

My name is Sarah and my partner's name is Farah. We are in grade 7 and we have to do a project on an issue that can be looked at locally and of course, globally. Our topic is "Teens and Drug Usage". We were wondering if you could give us your opinion on this issue. We have researched a lot and found disappointing news that, in the USA, more than 60 percent of kids and youth start using unsafe drugs at the age of nine, and over many years the percentage of drug use has gone up. I was upset when I read about this, because I am the same age as them. I am 12 years old, and like many other youths, I wonder what certain drugs taste like, or how they might make me feel after I use one. At the same time, I think I feel somewhat offended in way because a child 3 years younger than me should not be permitted or allowed to use drugs. What do you think we can do as youths? What is your opinion on drugs, and teens being able to use them? How do you think youths get their hands on them? Please write back. We are looking forward to hearing your opinions and thoughts.

Thank you,
Sarah and Farah

understand that a vast majority of people who do drugs (especailly underage) DO NOT get permitted to do them. They do the drugs because for some reason that is beyond me, they think it's cool. They get ahold of them through other people who have them and let them try them. I personally think that drugs are stupid and only hurt yourself and everyone around you, but that's just me with my own experience. As a youth, the only thing you can do is decided whether or not you want to do them now and int he future, and if you say no, stick with that decision. Yes, drugs take you away from the world for awhile, but they leave lasting problems that will hurt you for a long time. That's my opinion, though....

you are completely right Sarah and Farah. Sarah, i've read and replied to another one of your posts. you're a very smart person and i would love to talk to you. doing drugs underaged is normally due to pier pressure. also, sometimes the addiction is started by the parents because they leave them lying around. also though, if more people stood up and stop other kids from doing drugs and smoking underaged, then we may be able to, not prevent, but lower the amount of kids using drugs underaged.

Hi Sarah and Farah. Im happy to hear that more youth are being made aware of drug use globaly. My name is Katie, I am a Struggling, Recoverying and Suffering Drug Addict. I am also a youth, I am almost fifteen and have already been to a Rehab Center here in Canada. Drugs are very dangerous, very interesting and highly acclamined things. They do alot thought, and they disrupt alot. There is not much more we can do to prevent drug use, it is unfourtanate, but very true. My opinion about drugs: In a way they almost killed me, but in a way they saved my life. I have had one over dose on meth, eleven over doses on alcahol, two over doses on weed, two over doses on cocaine, one on ecstacy, one on codene and one on cocaine/ecstacy. There were my near life incidents. But to describe how it saved my life, for me- drugs were a coping mechanism, I have a rough home life.. I used drugs to get away, and to feel better. I suffer from severe depression and even though drugs are known to triggar depression, they helped me forget about it. When I was high, I didnt think about suicide. I still use drugs today, not as much as before I went to treatment. I suggest if you take drugs, you approach it carefuly, and know the information first.

Treatment for teens
troubled teens | Jun 23rd, 2009
Many treatment centers provide troubled teens residential programs, in which patient can feel homely environments and get relaxation from mentally as well as physically. There are many troubled teens parents looking for the best addiction treatment programs for their addict’s teens. http://tigurl.org/37r5oe
