I'm a nigerian by birth and i've lived there all my life and i just want to share a little about the yoruba tribe one can find in my country. There are 3 main ethnic groups in nigeria the yorubas, ibos and hausas.each ethnic group is further divided into other sub-ethnic groups ( if u'll permit me to use that ). Surprisingly, the official language is english! we have more than 400 different languages though politically, the country is divided into 6 geo-political zones.
I belong to the yorubas and it's suprising to hear that even the yorubas have more than 20 different dialects. Though their traditions and cultural beliefs are very similar so is their mode of dressing. They can be found in the southwestern part of the country. They occupy the following states ogun, osun, oyo, ondo, ekiti, kwara and lagos. Their staple foods are amala (made from yam flour), eba (made from cassava), pounded yam and many others i don't even know about. Idolworship was predomonant in the pre colonial days but now christianity and islam have taken over, although a few still practice it
it's imporatnt o note here that yorubas despite the differences in dialect are a closely knitted set of people. they respect and uphold family values and are very respectful.the females kneel down and the males prostrate to greet their elders.infact children are told and taught about respect right from childhood. they are united and they come together ti fight for their rights when the need arises. i could go on and on but i'll let u find out more on your own, it's worth it.

Its so good to know that we have nigerians who are still very much proud of their tribes. Its a good thing, but in my own opinion I will rather promote the nation as a whole just to contribute my quota to making Nigerians see themselves first as a Nigerian before thinking of their tribe. Sincerly I like your article. Thanks
