Zambia Ngoma Awards - A Disgrace Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

Next year, Ngoma Awards organizers should invite the South Africans to
help us. We really need help. Our old trusted friends shall always be
willing to help us. It was an embarrassing show at the Mulungushi
International Conference Centre which was beamed live on our 'national' BetterTV.

The best part was the performance by the children from St. Mulumba; they
were sparkling clear with positive messages.

"In any case, the Ngoma Awards should be seen to be growing, not just
with new artists being nominated every year but also with the
introduction of new categories like Best Video, as well as something for those in
the diaspora like Chasaya Sichilima. If NAC cannot recognize these
exports, who else will?" asks DeKatch.

I thought I had watched the whole show; I only realized this morning
that I had dozed off for some time. Maybe that's when there were some
good parts. NAC should actively involve ZNBC and all media houses for
the coverage of such a gathering. We need highlights, analysis, audience reaction, nominee reaction and all the rest of the goodness.

The show was really an EMBARRASSMENT. We have to wake up. What happened?

The KORA was GREAT. Bravo Kora!

Writer Profile
Matongo Maumbi

Matongo Maumbi aka Afromatrix, is a producer at Radio Chikuni in southern rural Zambia on 91.8fm. I have been a practicing journalist since 2000 and ICTs for development in rural areas and youth related issues have been of particular interest. I have an interest in writing, and when I do it's a good piece. I believe that sharing such information with a wider group can enhance good growth on my part in Chikuni and the other parts of the world.
I am male and 24 years old, single and hope to marry the girl I have intimate emotions with.
