Strictly between you and I
I would never tell a lie
Forever, truth is still truth
Facing truth I ask of the youth
For always men will be men
Sons of men can learn from pain to gain
The motherland, Africa is who I am
That ancient overwhelmed dame
Meditate on me; think of me, your continent
Asking, to ease the pain, for a little ointment
My children, born of me, born to me
Look around me, tell me what you see
Poverty, disease and its devastation?
It’s up to Africans to begin the mitigation
Oh for some sound education
Oh for the elimination of corruption
Those only you care keep in remembrance
No matter how harsh truth is, learn acceptance
If only that great majority could access education
And your leaders trade corruption for dedication
You'd take your first step to that day
When your greatest troubles will be at bay
How can you look to your exploiter?
While in your woes past and present you falter
To gradually turn into your savior,
Look out for you and provide for you forever?
Today I'll tell your destination
Even though I need not mention
Where you are headed to is the dark nowhere
With handouts, empty promises you are lead to the lair
If you don’t rise for yourself today and now
You will be no more and not know how
Salvation for you will never come from the West
Help for you will never come from the East
Hope for you never dwelt in the North
Answers for you never came from the South
There is only your Maker to look out for you
Look for help elsewhere until your brown eyes turn blue
But your Maker needs you to do your part
Before you accept eternal defeat to lie down on your mat
In the Bible God says of Judah: “for lack of knowledge”
My people are destroyed, “Child of Africa get the edge”
For your lack of knowledge
You count on promises of the mirage
