Dear Parents,

I am a girl of diversity.
I am a boy of diversity.

Gaze onto my caramel skin.
Gaze unto my leche skin.

My soft, hazel eyes.
My fierce, green ojos.

See into my colored soul.
See into my latino life.

Are you surprised that I’m with him?
Are you surprised I’m with her?

So what if I have nappy, soft hair?
So what if I have so called “good hair.”

You shoudn’t care about our age.
We don’t care about our age.

Our love comes from slave plantations.
Our love comes from coconut fields.

I don’t eat fried chicken or corn bread.
I don’t eat arroz con pollo or tortillas.

I do have a 90 average.
I do have a 95 average.

So what if I play sports.
So what if I don’t play sports.

Maybe the fact that I have roots in Africa makes you mad.
Maybe the fact that I have roots in Argentina makes you mad.

Whatever it may be, I’ll still stay me.
Whatever it may be, I’ll still stay me.

I will still love him.
I will still love her.

I am a girl of America.
I am a boy of America.

We are a diverse couple.
