| You were so beautiful You were so strong You were always respected People always loved you People were always proud of you You had enough food for your people to eat You had enough milk for your children to drink You had enough land for them to live You had enough clothes for them to wear You had enough water for them to drink You had enough light for them to use You had enough shelter for them to stay You had enough money for them to spend You had adventures for your children You had great ones to rule them You had wise ones to put them true You had strong ones to guide them You had ones with knowledge to teach them You had ones with voices to give them melodies You loved your people so much that you watch them grow in harmony THAT WAS THEN, NIGERIA! BUT NIGERIA, WHY HAVE THOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON YOUR PEOPLE? Your spirit reigns no more Your name’s no more respected Why have thou forsaken your name? Your people live like slaves A farmer becomes hungry 'cos he has no food Your princes and princess beg for food Your soul has departed from your people Your people live in pain but always in silence He that has the mouth talks no more He that has knowledge is like a fool Nigeria, where is thou face? Your children cry for milk but they get nothing instead Your people cry for water but all they get is blood, which cannot be drunk Your children die of diseases that have no cure Your leaders act like they’ve got no followers Your people ignore the crying of your people Your leaders act like they’ve got no conscience Your leaders kill themselves all because of gold and silver Your people kill themselves all because of money and wealth, which they will always be deprived of one day Your people have no respect for life Nigeria, were have thou gone? Your people’s lives are safe no more Your children beg for light in their fathers' land but all they get is darkness Your people beg for love and harmony but all they get is hatred and violence Your fishermen buy fish like paying for gold Nigeria, hear the voices of your people! Your people are maltreated by their neighbours Your leaders govern your people no more but the money and wealth meant for your people do they govern Your people sweat and work for their daily bread but all they get at the end of it all is nothing Your wise men are ignored The man with knowledge is not allowed to speak The fool states the rules for your people to follow Nigeria, your glory has been disrespected Your glory has been stained Stand up, Nigeria! Let everyone no you are not to be disrespected Let them know you are not to be stained Let your leaders know the truth Let them hear the voices of your people and their people Let them shed blood no more WAKE UP, NIGERIA AND LET YOUR SPIRIT REIGN WITHIN YOUR CHILDREN! « return. |
