Love is knowing someone well enough to see their shortcomings,
Love though will endure them and encourage them anyway.

Love is caring for someone so deeply that they hurt, and you hurt too.
Their embarrassment and shame embarrasses and shames you too.

Love is being so afraid of sharing the truth with your loved one,
Because you know they will be hurt
And yet that truth will eat at you until it is out.

Love is something you can feel by the way your lover gazes at you.
You can’t explain it though and once you point it out it’s disappeared.

And now losing love, what does it feel like?

Losing love is like that big lump in your throat before you cry.
You know something is wrong, but you can’t just put your finger on it.

You notice the tension and you’ve noticed your lover hasn’t said “I love you” in awhile.
The longer it goes on the thicker the tension builds and the more awkward everything gets.

Your lover wants to hold you and kiss you, but you just don’t feel right.
There is that distance - pulling you each further and further away from each other.

The question runs through your head again and again.
Should you bring this up or wait for your lover?
Do you bring up the distance and the awkwardness or do you hold on?

And then you can’t take it anymore - you must ask - must know.
“Why haven't you said ‘I love you’ in so long?” A deep sigh.

The conversation you anticipated, yet could not prepare for.
Your lover acknowledges things are different - change has occurred.

The relationship must end.
It cannot be picked up again at another time because it is not meant to be.
Your lover realized you are not compatible.

And so it is done.
Your lover kisses you on the cheek and squeezes you good night.
You realize you have just felt your lover’s last kiss.
