Yes, it came to him as a blow,
He had never expected this.
When his friends had told him,
That she was just a girl like others,
He had paid no attention.

And now, that night reappears to him,
How she had made promises of faithfulness.
Till now, he believed her to be faithful.
All the boys, she had introduced as
Her brothers, uncles, cousins, or close relatives.

But surely that guy could not be a relative.
The way they sat close to each other,
The way they joked and teased each other,
The way they caressed and kissed each other,
Convinced him the guy was not a relative.

Was he going to stand and stare,
While the river carried away all he owned?
No! No! A hundred times No!
It was worse than being dead.
