MY TOWN

People say there is no place like home. My native town is Angarsk. It is very young, just only a bit more than 50 years old. It was born by the victory of the Soviet people in the Second World War. I know that many young people from the whole country came here to build a large plant to work at. The first builders of Angarsk lived in tents and later they began to build two-storied houses. These people were full of enthusiasm to begin a new life in a new place. And they managed to turn a small settlement into a large, beautiful green city on the bank of the Angara.

Today Angarsk is not only very large, but very important in our region. More than 350, 000people live and work here. First of all, it is an industrial center of the Irkutsk region as there are many plants and factories producing different goods.

The city is divided into 2 parts; an old town and a new town. The old town consists of small two-storied houses built of brick. There is also the central square of our city Lenin Square and Karl Marx Street, which is the main street of the old part. In the new part there are skyscrapers, five, nine and ten-storied buildings. The streets of this part are long and mite with big bright shops which are rather modern.

If tourists come to Angarsk I would advise them to visit some places which are the attractions of our city. First of all we’ve got some places of culture, such as Sovremtnnik, Neftekhimik and Energetic where different concerts and holidays are held and which have many clubs for children. Besides, we have got a clock museum that is famous all over the world. It was grounded by Pavel Vasilyevich Kurdukov and contains a great amount of clocks, big and small, which were made in different times, brought from different countries and belonged to some famous people, for example cosmonaut Grechko.

Angarsk also has got some parks, cinemas, stadiums and many schools.

I love my native city and I would like it to become larger, greener, more modern and beautiful year by year.
