To wonder, to care, to become!
The essay that you are reading now is a sum of my painful, aching thoughts on the ecological problems, my search for the way out, a unique perspective to introduce my ideas of becoming a worthy and rounded twenty-first's century citizen. As soon as I found out that ecological problems worry me a lot, I joined our local club "Dubravushka" ("Oakwood"), whose motto is "to wonder, to care, to become". We all are wonderful wonderers, aren’t we? From early childhood we are admiring the pleasures of nature - its smells, sounds, colors. We are "takers" mostly, not" givers". To become a worthy citizen we should not only wonder, but also care. If we do not pay attention to the conservation, we are not going to make any real progress on the environment. I want to develop a blueprint for success in defending this world. With our future on the line we cannot afford to cut corners. In our club we do not do something great, we are doing small environmentally-related things: plant birches, make homes for birds, bird-feeders, clean brooks, prepare some special environmental shows addressed to children: "A temple of Nature", "The Earth is our home", "The quarrel of continents"," What can I do?» publish our articles in our local newspaper. We want our peers to think more about the place we live in. Of course, we touch upon such global facts as disappearing ozone layer, animals, forests, but mainly about garbage crisis in our community. We find the situation in our countryside worrying: people throw away litter, cans, paint the trees and buildings. Soon there won’t be any place free of it. In the framework of Altay krai program " Start with your own house", we announced ours " Make Shipunovo a better place!»

We do not raise money to solve this problem; we want to raise peers awareness about environment issues. A Man and the Earth are an organic unity. Nobody can break this eternal duet. We are bind firmly forever as a Mother and a Child. Nature is not a plane form, nor an unsophisticated mould, nor an artless stamp. It has universal Love, Freedom and its own Language, which we have to learn to coexist. I am sure that personal understanding of the crucial importance of ecological awareness will play a great role in my intellectual, spiritual and creative life and will be translated into renewed enthusiasm and duplicate efforts on my part to active ecological support of our small community. Nobody can make things better for us in our native place. To be honest it is not easy, but on the other hand it is not nearly as formidable a task as you might think either. It is a task not for a single person but for each and every one. We must keep in mind three words, three acts, and three steps: to wonder, to care, to become. That’s my mission as a citizen of Altay and Shipunovo.
34 years have past after the first Earth Day. We still have a lot to do. I am not going to be a loser on this way. Task number one: my latest challenge is to plant a new park just opposite our school.
