Planning is a behavioural attitude that must be developed by all. There is no substitute to good planning in our quest to live a fulfilled life void of disappointment and despair. In the creation story, we are told that God formed the earth through His spoken words. God did not just wake up one day and say, "Let there be light, let there be this...or that.” He is not a disorderly and haphazard God. He arranged and planned His creation by organizing His creative works logically and reasonably. For instance, He did not create man until He made everything that man will need. That is planning.
Generally speaking, planning is simply the systematic arrangement of ideas, thought, or a goal with clear cut means to get them materialised. Take the case of a farmer who intends to have bountiful harvest but fails to cultivate his land as at when due, or a young man who dreams of a bright future yet refuses to work hard, or a pastor who wants to have the largest congregation in town but finds it difficult to diligently carry out his spiritual and physical work, or even a student who wants to top his class but cannot study for an hour before dozing off. All the cases considered above have something in common; they all had wonderful goals and aspirations. However, none of them can get his goal fulfilled, except something unusual happens, due to the missing ingredient of planning. Suffice it to say that, the only authentic legal tender in market of "fulfilled" life is planning.
An unplanned journey is an unsafe journey, it takes a well researched and result oriented planning to excel in the journey of life. Indeed, planning is as potent as prayer. That explains why some people who have never deemed it necessary to do with God, still excel in their chosen profession. Planning is such a strong and powerful force that cannot be relegated to the back ground in the life of every successful man. There is no accidental success; it has to be planned for. Having realised the indispensability of good planning for a glorious life, there is a need to consider some ways by which it can be achieved.
At this juncture, we may ask the question, "How do we plan?" We plan by making plans. This may sound funny but it actually contains some elements of truth in it. Planning entails all the steps or actions taken to get our lofty dreams and aspirations fulfilled.
In fact, whatever one does to ensure the materialization of his dreams is planning. The steps or actions taken must not, however, be in conflict with accepted moral standards.
Thus the worker, who got promoted by "caressing the palm" of the officer in charge cannot be said to have planned well. The realisation of our good planning, all goals are achieved. The journey to the moon by American astronauts was a huge success because every stage of the journey was planned.
Secondly, planning enhances the spirit of optimism and enthusiasm required to accelerate the fulfilment of our dreams. Dreams come to pass, but they don't get fulfilled on a platter of gold. A positive mental attitude is the impetus needed to fulfill our dreams. Apart from this, good planning enables us to easily ensure or overcome difficulties that may be encountered on our way to the "promise land". Once we know where we are going, the courage and strength to get there will naturally be in place regardless of the opposition on the way. A man of planning can never be stranded because he knows what to do each time. A planned life is a blessed life.
It is one thing to plan and quite another to "plan well". That "well" makes a lot of differences. The future belongs to the planner. Until you plan for a glorious future, you cannot partake of same. If only we can discover the potency and dynamics of good planning, as it affects every area of our lives, our lives will soon become a shining light not only in our immediate environment, but to our world at large!
