I don't know how many of you reading this has endured the public school system in Florida. For those of you who haven't, let me fill you in.

My teachers, for the most part, have often inspired me to become something and someone more than your average Joe or Sue. And yet no matter how much I cherish them, that will not compensate for the fact that in their entire teaching career they will not make as much money as a decent shortstop in the major leagues gets paid for just ONE game! Not to mention that they often have to use their own money to purchase supplies, et cetera. The very simple solution: PAY TEACHERS MORE!!! It doesn't take a genius to see the advantages. Many more teachers, less cramped classes, better supplies, basically a more efficient learning environment.

Then there is the fact that no matter how hard my teachers try, we almost always guaranteed that one-day a week we will carry home at least one-third our weight. This is going to be the reason most of us (the students) will or do have major back problems. Now the solution- we adapt a system that will involve all of our books, notes, et cetera be kept on a disc where we can look at them on the computer and it can easily be carried from the home to school. Many pessimistic people will not see that for every imaginable problem there is a solution. Extra discs so no one looses their information, math (where you have to do a lot of solving and writing) use these "pads" I saw at my elementary school, where you write on them and it is transferred to the computer and many more existing in my head.

I am also going to put this out there; I am hoping to start a non-profit organization that will supply teachers with money to help their classroom. I want to see the amount of support I can get. If you think you would be willing to donate to such a cause, please email me (xtraamusement@hotmail.com), for the subject put, "Education," and in the email write, "Teachers deserve the best!" And thank you for taking the time to listen to my complaint.

TAKE ACTION 2 CHANGEIT
Adam Fletcher | Aug 2nd, 2003
Hey Gina, it sounds like you're really passionate about making schools a better place. I don't know who you've heard back from, but there are thousands of students who want to change schools, but don't know how. Go to www.SoundOut.org to see examples of what students around the nation are doing to make their schools better places, how they're doing it, and what they're getting done. And good luck.

So teachers are badly paid everywhere...
Tawachi Nyasulu | Sep 9th, 2003
Hello Gina, From my profile you will see that I am Tabachi Nyasulu from Malawi in Central Africa. Here teachers are not only badly paid but are also not paid in time. For example there was a case of at a certain govt sec. sch. where teachers were not paid for six months! but I never thought that this trend is the same in the First World.Let me agree with you that this development is contributing to the decline in education quality. I am also glad that you are planning to do something about this.
