With a smile light as the wind chasing the clouds, And laughter twinkling along the edges of the seashore, You welcomed me here barely a year ago. Then the real tests came with time and you couldn’t quite understand No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t quite let go. My heart still remained back where the sun arose And I couldn’t yet fully bid it good night. I knew how it upset you so as you wept, At first in fury and then simply didn’t stop. Our world hardened this way so devoid of colour Until courage pushed me to look fully into your face. Through the walls of both our tears, I recognised the sunlight In the depths of your eyes and the glimpse of the familiar. The spirit of your twin so far away And our truce was made that day when we danced Through the rivers and puddles of all our tears. What a garden has sprung many months since. Blooms of joy and peace lovingly tended By those gleeful of sisters, spring and summer. But as autumn prepares to whisper her subtle hellos, My own voice searches through the cloudiness of farewells. Yes, dear friend, our dance is near done And I must return to the waking of the sun. But your cloud-chasing smile and even your Long-enduring tears will always embrace my heart Whenever I turn towards you and bid good night to the sun. Someday, I will return and we can continue to teach the world our dance. « return. |
