| With times this tough, the cost of everything Valentine-y becomes a problem. So much so that the newest definition of celebrating the 14th of February now is simply to make your special someone happy and in love without having to blow off your entire allowance. Couples are getting more creative in celebrating the day of hearts. And being creative can be anything from spending quality time with each other at the park or in a not-so-expensive restaurant, or doing some activity together that would cost both parties the least expense. There’s nothing wrong keeping the celebration simple today. For sure, if St. Valentine were asked how people should celebrate his day, he would say something like “just be fair, be perfectly honest, be yourself and spend your budget wisely.” After all, haven’t we been told a million times over that what’s more significant is a simple yet most heartfelt offering of love? Now here are 14 romantic ideas you guys might like to try: five those who are single, five for you guys’ in a relationship, and four extra tips for the gals. Enjoy! Top five romantic things to do on Valentines Day if you are single: 1. Get together with a bunch of friends and paint the town red. You can do this if you have the luxury of time and have a considerable amount of money to spend. But if you have none of these, invite a friend or two to take a long walk with instead. You’ll all have fun chatting and clearing your heads for sure. 2. Go listen to an inspirational talk or invite friends over for a sharing. Since the day of hearts this year falls on a Saturday, why not attend anticipated mass or invite an inspirational speaker to join your group? Better yet, invite your friends over for snacks and start a sharing of your love stories. 3. Buy yourself a card or a token. Nobody said you can’t do this when you’re single. Buy yourself a card, treat yourself out, or buy a token for yourself. There are a thousand and one reasons why you deserve such a treat, even without a loved one on your side. 4. Write a detailed description of your ideal partner. It’s always good to know what you would like in a guy or gal. Enumerate the qualities which would definitely attract you in terms of personality, attitude, or maybe even looks. You’re not making a requirement list; just a mental note of what you think would make you and that other person click. 5. Give mom a rose. If you don’t have anyone to share your Valentines Day with, then why not give a rose to mom? Or give dad a kiss. They’ll surely be touched by your thoughtfulness. Top five romantic things to do on Valentines Day if you are a man in a relationship: 1. Bring her the kind of flowers that remind you of her, and write her a poem, celebrating her. Give real flowers, not artificial ones. Your girl might think you’re feelings reflect on the kind of flowers you’re giving her. Give her fresh roses, and add a short poem or note that celebrates her good qualities, or about your love for her. 2. Surprise her with a romantic dinner out. Of course, remember not to slip and tell her where you’re going. But consider the place most suitable for both of you. If you don’t have enough money, hold the dinner in your garden at home. This would be more thoughtful actually, since you’d be preparing everything for her. 3. Take her dancing and treat her as if it’s your first date. Reminisce your first date with a night out dancing. If you don’t how to dance, still try. She will appreciate you trying. 4. Fill the house (or just the bedroom) with candles and flowers, and spend the whole evening alone wither. Spending quality time with your girl could be the best present you could give her on Valentine’s Day. 5. Spend an hour at sunset telling her what you cherish about her and how she makes your life wonderful. Sunset signifies the end of the day. And it reminds you that your day won’t ever be complete without her beside you. If you see no sunset at all, try to think of other things that would remind her how she made your day just right. Top four romantic things to do on Valentines Day if you are a woman in a relationship: 1. Give roses and read him a love letter. Guys like it when you write them a letter. Never mind the grammar. More often than not, it’s how you sincerely put what you want to say. 2. Have a living room Filipino picnic, with light finger foods. If you don’t have much money to spend today, you still have the option to at least offer him something light yet delicious, such as little goodies or pica-pica. 3. Your boyfriend will certainly be delighted. Just a little food for thought before I end. If you do these things every day, week in, week out, month in, month out, and year in, year out, won’t your life be more meaningful and fulfilling?
