God, this one name has been given so many synonyms since the beginning of the world. ‘Chukwu’, you will hear the Ibos call him. ‘Allah’, our Hausa brothers prefer to refer him as. The Yorubas have many names given to this same God; but, we are all talking about one Being. He is believed to be a Spirit, the Creator of the Heavens and earth (indeed the whole of the universe) and all earthlings.
According to the bible, Man was the last creature created and was given power over all other earthlings. This goes to underline that verse of the bible which says “the first will become last and the last first.” Let us take time out to imagine how powerful and mighty this God is. The owner of over 6 billion humans! Not to talk of the animals; birds in the air, fish in the waters, and the other animals that live with man on land. This same God (as many believe) sent his Son, (the second of the Trinity) down to the earth to redeem man from the depths of hell which we were definitely headed for. He came, and died on the cross; this happened over two thousand years ago.
This same God could have comfortably wiped out humans from the earth then (and create a new set of them), but he came down to the earth to see how he would take us away from the hands of another of his creature, Satan the fiend.
Those that believe that God’s Son came to swill out our sins now call themselves Christians while those that do not believe can be found among Jews and Moslems, followers of the Prophet Mohammed. These two chief religions (and indeed others) have this believe that there is a Creator, the God of Creation and after our sojourn here on earth, we will go to report how we sojourned to the Almighty.
What beats me is the fact that Christians and Moslems hardly subsist together in absolute peace and concord. I believe that every Moslem who assaults a Christian does not have the complete believe that Islam is a true religion, hence the insecurity (and vice-versa). Christians must try to obliterate this believe that only Christians can make it to heaven, because, in my personal opinion, this is one of the main reasons why Christians are attacked in Non-Christian lands.
Christianity and Islam should be like role models to other kinds of religion. All religions {and I mean all} preach the same thing; love! But we find out in this present world that there is no love lost among subscribers to these religions. A Clergy is always discriminating against another religion and an Islamic leader never wants to hear Christ! What is going on?! When will this madness stop? When will this world stop being a place of frequent unrest and violence? When will Christians {who claim that God Is Love} begin to love people of other religions? When will Moslems {who claim that Islam is a religion of peace} begin to live in peace with Non-Moslems? When will we see religious leaders from different religions come together in one accord? When will religious clashes stop? For goodness sake, who is a Christian? Who is a Moslem? Who is a Pagan? Who is an atheist? If we are all God’s creatures then why should we discriminate? Why can’t Moslems follow the way Mohammed taught them? And Christians follow Christ’s teachings? Why can’t the Pagans continue in the way our father did in their days?
Why can’t they follow the exact way our fathers did worship their gods?! Why do we have to make this planet worse than hell? Why don’t we follow the teachings of our real leaders? Every good Christian must believe that Mohammed was a prophet sent by God to come and preach the Word to the Arabs {which was later to spread all over the world}; every good Moslem’s got to believe that Jesus Christ is the second of the Trinity…the Son of God. Search yourself! Are you good? Do you follow the true teachings of the holy book {Koran or Bible}? Let us all try our best to believe in whatever we believe. Everybody can not be Christians, everyone cannot be a Moslem! Neither can everyone be a Pagan nor an atheist! We should not force anyone to join in our beliefs {or unbelief as the case may be}. To your tent oh Israel! Forcing people to believe in what you believe in is one of the major causes of conflicts in the world. You are a learner in whatever you believe in, how can you hope to teach others? What do you want to teach them? Jargons?! There is this Igbo proverb {Igbo is a tribe in Nigeria} that says “onye ha na ezun o na’a zu’kita” translated thus: “you don’t train a dog when you are being trained.”
When you force someone into a belief you yourself don’t really understand, then how are you going to help him understand that belief? Why don’t you keep your belief to yourself and respect other people’s beliefs instead of trying to force them to accept your belief? We should learn to worship God in the best way we can.
Share love, it’s what the religions teach, not try to force your religious beliefs down the throat of

Religion is that dreaded time bomb...... Samson Nduleme Onwusonye | Apr 27th, 2004
As sorry to say this but religion, not race, tribe nor even money, would trigger off the third world war!!! We can draw infrences from the present crisis rocking the persian Gulf, Isreal and the middle east as a whole.
It is no news the spanish train bombing was not political, but has a religious inkling. Most riots in the country, especially at the north are obviously powered by religion. So I would not be surprised to find out the next world war would be fought across religious lines.
