1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am Arrey Emmanuel Enow. I live in Yaounde, Cameroon. I have a Masters degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology and a Diploma in Management. I am a writer and write on diverse subjects. I strive to change the world through writing and volunteering. I derive my pleasure from making the needy smile.

2. How did you become an on-line volunteer?
After my degree programme in 2004, I was searching for a job and I came in contact with Better World Cameroon, where I was recruited as a volunteer. I have been volunteering there todate as the education officer.

3. What kind of tasks do you normally perform?
I focus mostly on education, coming up with syllabi for teaching, evaluation of curricula, development of teaching materials, and organizing training workshops. I am also in charge of creating links with other related organizations. Since Better World is an NGO for environmental protection, they have a garden. I work in the garden six hours a week. I am also the project manager of the Hygiene and Sanitation project (WASHP) and the president of the Better World Student Nature Club.

4. What are your overall thoughts on the experience? I have learnt a lot over the years and gotten a lot of experience. Intellectually I have developed in my knowledge and thinking. I am currently writing a book, The Green Generation, based on my experiences. I have improved my knowledge of projects and participated successfully in international projects. Volunteering with Better World has led me to volunteer with other organizations and led me to my present job as the Management Assistant of LAGA Cameroon.

I have learned a lot over the years, especially concerning global issues. I think the experience is a very good one, though it is important to keep the needs of the volunteers in mind and for the principles of volunteering to be practiced off-line too. Of course, on-line volunteers would also benefit from in-person contact, but where that's not always possible, there are ways of establishing connections capable of having an impact through technology.

5. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Volunteering is good for every body. It is always good for a job seeker to start by volunteering. Volunteering is not only for you to build experience but also to build yourself up spiritually and morally. The more you volunteer, the more you serve people who are in need and serving the needy is part and parcel of every human being’s responsibility on earth. He who volunteers is closer to God.
