I remember the looks
so penetrating, so deep
silent and innocent
filled with questions
though ready to be asked
wouldn't be because
those beautiful lips
have been trained
for confidentiality;

I remember the smiles
so sincere,
so accommodating
saying in their innocent
sincerity, "U don't understand"
yes, I do but protocol
demands that I don't...

I remember the hug
well placed though
far-removed one from the other
yet never demeaning good intents
but ensuring endearment

I remember the walk away
the turnaround,
the skimpy smiles
warm look,
sadness spread over
it told stories of distress
and cornered all with a
solid message:
"I wouldn't have wanted you
to go if I had the power to"

I remember the wave
with long well-manicured
fingers hanging nimbly
on an immaculate arm
"goodbye!" it says
and all the others swallowed
as the swagger went
round the bend, out of sight
I remember,
I remember you
yes, I do,
even now as I write!

« return.
