Peace & Conflict , Child & Youth Rights   Poetry

Today a child cried
Because their alcoholic parent beat them.

One hour ago a child was sent to work in a factory
Because their parents sold them off as a child slave.

Yesterday a child screamed
Because an explosive went off right in their neighbourhood.

Last week a child was discriminated against
Because of their religion

Last month a child saw their classmates shot to death
Because one person decided they should die.

Last year over 14,000 children died
Because of poverty.

Tomorrow, next week, next month, next year
Have not happened yet.

So don't let another child cry or scream.
Don't let another child suffer.

Do something, open your eyes, open your heart.
Help make this world a better place so that a child will never have to suffer again,
So that a child will never have to experience violence, discrimination, abuse, war.

The future depends on you.
