I long to sing a song for Africa
A fresh song with no verses of
Babies of Lagos dying in their sleep
Giving in to that lethal rumbling
In their empty tummies
And medicine is still too expensive
A fresh song with no verses of
That 10 year old son raised by
The streets of Soweto
That weapon in his pocket
One hand gripped onto that can of glue
The other stretched out
“One rand please madam’’
A fresh song with no verses of
Daughters of Tripoli
Made mothers
At the dawn of their youth
That education dream
Forced to the graves
I long to sing a song for Africa
A fresh song with no verses of
That mama lying on
A pavement in Kisumu
Crying herself to sleep
‘Tho yawa!’
Rent has gotten weigh too much
And tomorrow promises
The same ‘wich bar’
A fresh song with no verses of
African husbands drowning in
The local brew
Desperate
To wash their frustration away
A fresh song with no verses of
Corruption, Crime, Poverty
Illiteracy, Disease
A fresh song!
I long to sing, I long to dance
To a song for and about Africa
A fresh song with the beats of pride
Pride in the richness of
Our resources, our cultures
A fresh song with the beats of
True leadership clothed in
Wisdom and vision
A fresh song with the beats of
Self-less ambition among
The political class
Finally working towards
A collective goal
The Ultimate Continental Prosperity
I long to sing, I long to dance
To a fresh song for and about Africa
A fresh song with the theme
Mental Liberation
For all of us
From the West to the South
Up North to the East of Africa
Mental Liberation
Oh Great African people
Woe onto you held captive
By the confines of your own mind!

Writer Profile
Malkia Affiah
In my writing, I yearn to reward my feelings, my thoughts, my understanding, my relevance and my nowness, with the gift of eternity wrapped in simplicity and delivered by an army of alive emotions under the command of their master, humanity.
By you experiencing my pieces, I 'm one with this desire and for that I give thanks. A million bows for exploring my work.
