this discussion gives some good background to support and encourage a study into other aspects of assimilation (integration?) that people have used throughout time to become inconspicuous or alternatively to be set apart and distinguished as "different"

I like the interpretations and thoughts you made from Black Children, Black Speech, and the mental mixture with Joel. Language is not just a verbal vehicle, but a cultural recipient of multiulturalism and personal backgrounds.

I like the way that you have used Black Children, Black Speech and tied in the first hand encounters with Joel. I agree that we judge so many by the way they talk, or act. Some choose to talk a certain way to become in with the "in" crowd. The way we use speech does act as a cloak to blend in and be accepted by our peers.
