I duff my sleep today again
to write a note for you alone,
To spill the pain that distance spans
and riddle my heart with scents of you;

I write a thousand knotty miles away
to a soul far away but still near enough to smile,
To a hand that holds the dear one too near
for the un-tendered to fear the loss of love;

I write to you not because I write
but for all who write, believe
That I have found love so far away.
I fear her no will be my demise.

I stare into those eyes with respect,
No harm meant to raise lost hopes,
Nor such that makes lust look like love,
I only gaze at the awesome creation of God.
