To many Nigerians hope is not an option. To them the future of this nation is blurry. This is simply because we are witnessing the worst epidemic of lawlessness the human race has ever experienced. Our cities have been taken over by incidences of strikes, rape, murder, riots, looting, arson, political crisis, examination malpractice etc. Internet crimes are also on the increase. Considering all these factors, hope would definitely be far-fetched. It would be difficult to picture a changed nation and environment.

On the other hand, there is a strong feeling that a second revolution is coming that will guarantee long-lasting change in Nigeria as a whole. It is possible to live a life devoid of corruption in Nigeria. This can only be achieved by renewed and changed minds which are willing to fight for peace, honesty and better lives with their last breaths. As youth in this nation we need to change our mind set about the future of the nation.

There is a saying that, "A person’s life is shaped by what he listens to over a period of time; whatever enters your ears enters your mind, and whatever enters your mind enters your life." This is the case with our fathers. Their lives have been shaped by what they have been told in times past. As a result of this we are still locked in a cycle of failure and underdevelopment, and we are still impoverished decades after attaining independence from our colonial masters. They have nailed us to a slave mentality after years of being free from slavery.

The youth of any nation is its strength and future. Youth represent the hope to come and they carry in them the seed for the continuity of a giving society. Their brightness is in their strength and their passion is in their zeal. As youths who desire a change in the nation we need to be on the offensive in order to break the status quo. We must be free from the wrong mind set if we are to make change possible.

I see a clean environment if only we cut down on emissions from public transportation and private cars. I see a great nation if only we revisit our moral values and live by godly principles. I see an improved economy if only mediocrity loosens its hold on us and if we give ourselves to hard work and sharpen our skills. Everybody is born with talent. Develop it; do what you enjoy doing best with a sense of professionalism; exchange goods and services for money.

I see a standardized and authentic educational system if only we say no to examination malpractices. Our political sector can experience a positive shift if we say no to political rigging, avoid leadership by coercion and negotiation and accept leadership based on godly principles. If our youth say no to poverty and the slave mentality, I think there will be a dramatic turn-around in this country.

Nigeria will flourish again if only we join hands together to achieve the common goal of restoration. It starts with you and me; it starts in our immediate environment. Together we can make it happen if only we keep the hope alive.
