Peace & Conflict   Poetry

Even when it is time
At always a rise, at midday;
Even at my mother-fall
The pendulum swings on every side anew
The bell rings in and out; finally, a timbre,
And messages to the messagers.

Sometimes sweet as caramel,
Sometimes sour and sore indeed,
In flesh, blood and bone
... seems to be a good debt.

Well, return, you the rain,
Sleep in peace, dear sun,
Halt being a thorn in its flesh.
Come here and come home.
It' s Angelus time.

Please, listen to the silent orations of our androids,
The fool of our hearts,
The anecdotes of our dear illusionists,
Who seem to be...
Often in white and wings
Wide, wild and whirled indeed.

Writer Profile
Adelusi Oluwafemi Temidayo-Don

I am not a poet
I only seem like a pen
I am not a crafty writer
I only write my whrits
Script my gifted mouth;
Book my heart in my hands
I just want to spit it out once and for all
You call it an expression or anger
All I just want is to define the norms
To exploit means to do the extra ordinary things
Exceeding normal exist
Setting new standards on a consistency and continuous basis;
And be free at last from oppression, suppression, poverty, war, inferiority complex and other things you know
As for me
All l want to see is CHANGE and FREEDOM everywhere.

May God help me

Angelus Time
Adelusi Oluwafemi Temidayo-Don | Apr 19th, 2008
At this point, I am delighted to explain my poem “ Angelus Time” : Kindly note that my poem was written during election period and as such symbolises the time “Election Time, Angelus Time”. It reveals the activities of our bloody politicians that come to us only at the election campaign period (“Even when it is time”) in the morning, (“At always a rise”) under the scorching sun, (“At midday”) and at the resting seasons/ night (“Even at my mother fall”). They move from one corner to another, hitting their gongs (“The pendulum swings on every side anew”), pronouncing their creative orations (“The bell rings in and out finally a timbre”) to their long-standing fools, our people (“And the messages to the messagers”). The second stanza shows that people are always being wooed by good words, slogans and sentences to the extent that those pronouncements have become blood, flesh and bone that dwell among us (“in flesh, blood and bone”), most especially the holy men and volunteers for mandate changes. They forget that they owe us “Good debt;” rather they mix integrity and dignity with sore things. Kindly note that election period in my country is always an entertaining season of tragicomedy (“Sweet as caramel” and “ Sore indeed”). Stanza three pleads with NIGERIANS to come back to their senses (“Come here and come home”) and to stop personal destruction (“Return you the rain”, “Sleep in peace dear sun”; “Halt being a thorn its flesh”) since it is another election period (“It’s angelus time”). The first line of last stanza shows that our politicians only have good words at their disposal (“silent orations”) and, as such, deceive us with them (“Fool of our hearts”), nothing more. “The anecdotes of our dear illusionists” satirises and calls the attention of our people to the beastly nature of these bloody things, “wide, wild and whirl indeed” and of course, the mysterious things about these saviours (Angels) “who seem to be… in white and wings”.
