Life in our days is not what it used to be anymore, when in terms of moral, social ethics, religious beliefs and national orientation, all these have deteriorated in value. Sometimes I ask who could be made responsible for this but the questions come bouncing back at me from all direction,(body and individuality),that could be responsible for all form of youth development and orientation. I stand not to be justified but rather be corrected as I myself am a youth with little opinion and knowledge of what is expected of me.
Basically, there are questions and load some of them, which I cannot but ask as it seem like there is no room for them again in my head. Let me state here that, I am not crucifying anyone and in my opinion I believe it should be appealing only to those who are yet to decide which side of these societal issues to belong.
In recent times, and in our days, we seem to be full of enthusiastic splendour when we are being called leaders of the future, but have we really asked ourselves what leadership qualities we possess? I am tempted to argue on what we, in a major way, base our priorities on and even the indecent attitudes we justify. I hail from an institution that is well recognized mainly by the learned and the well exposed. Kindly allow me to explain to you the major primary ambitions of my fellow colleagues and then you may ask if what we justify; i.e. the spirit, the attitude and opinion we condone, how well they tell on our future without even the need of a sorcerer.
In my school, with each beginning semester, students find it difficult to arrive with old set of clothes, hence a new wardrobe bringing in the latest of fashion to include expensive jewelries, cars, house furniture and all other forms of youthful exuberance. If you cannot afford to pay such price, then you know where to belong so darling find your caucus. What appalls me is why a student would chose a very sociable individual as a role model and then believe mentoring such an individual should include their way of dressing.
Much as I love Winfrey Oprah, can I dare say I want to always look like her when I haven't paid nearly half the price and sacrifice she did pay? Please remember I said I am not crucifying but only appealing. As a youth, did you ever stop to ask what your priorities are? If ever most of us did, then we wouldn't have to lie about our tuition fees, textbooks, handouts and all other dishonest means of cajoling our parents, guardian, or sponsors just to live up to the standard we haven't paid the right price for? Remember, I am not crucifying but rather appealing.
In retrospect, I realized that my sincere conversation with my parents has taught me that what you do not work for you do not deserve to have, and that is why the wise ones say “no pain no gain”. Remember I am simply appealing .When we dare to lay blame on our present leaders do we also make vows and decisions strongly not to go along with their flawed opinion or rather remain indifferent to their actions? We would be telling the truth by saying that our future has started today, and we just have to make the very best preparations by working to have prestige, power and even making headway in our various profession or discipline. I simply ask, what do you justify?
Additionally, I cannot but marvel at the way nemesis would catch up with various youth concerning our lack of respect for our elders. It is only childish to expect our fathers not to have shortcomings and when we see it do we then take the rights of freedom of expression into our hands without caution? Juvenile delinquency they say is on the increase, but i guess we could prove them wrong.
Furthermore, over an average of families today are unstable, some trying to adjust to the hardship of poverty, and others living with the convenience of saying that workload has prevented dad and mum from staying together, all conclusively unhappy, yet youths are taking such path, but experience they say is the best teacher, so where is our well of wisdom?
I have dared to ask myself if I am guilty as charged, I know I can't plead innocent but I can vouch for better days from my heart and with God's hands. Finally, let me re-emphasize what we already might have heard, that before we chose a role model, we need to make thorough research on such individual and not be blind to see flaws in them so we do not thread on such path. Let your head guide you, take your time to find your priority and tell yourself where the truth lies, since it is you alone who can do it for yourself. Please join me as I pray for my beloved nation (Nigeria), continent Africa and the world for we still need World peace. I just appealed.
