It’s been on my mind for a long while now, The situation existing in many families one too many, Fathers and mothers full time workers, In a country as stressful as our own. Wake up before the sun is up, Come back after the sun is down, More like a vampire avoiding solar rays, Nocturnal beings, so unnaturally turned. Sex on phone, romance by mail, Cyber-orgy, rampant like wild fire, If amongst the wayward, it would be reasonable, But legally married?! God save our country! But who is to blame for the union so loose? No time for play, all time for work, Hurried lovemaking, romance microwaved, Posted promises, affection by DHL; “Mummy where’s Daddy”, “He’s out making money for us” “Daddy where’s Mummy”, “She had a meeting to attend”. Gradual disintegration, defined as doggedness, Progressive straying euphemisms as diligence, Love long lost, disguised as business; Minds cracked severally, “he’s just being transformed” Wake up from sleep, prioritize your life, 6 feet beneath, that’s what life is, Beyond love and affection, life is tasteless, Just like rubber, sticky and stretchy, But the aftertaste, not too good in the mouth. Take time to play, laugh and be stupid, Roll with her on the grass, Swim together again, A pat at the backside every now and then, Notes on the pillow, flowers on the bed, Gifts in her bag, kisses while he’s sleeping Times spent together, fresh in the memory. In the midst of all the chaos, never you forget, Our most precious gifts in life, Lies not in our riches, Better than rubies are the people who love us. « return. |
