Culture   Short Stories

While I studied in France I a came across a completely different culture. I meet a fellow from Ethiopia. He was very different to any other person I have met in my life. He had studied in so many countries, for example learning about the water system in order that there will be no shortage in the country and many things more. Did you know that Vietnam has got one of its best water system? Strange for us in the Western country, however, I was so impressed to learn all about it.

Personally speaking, I think the regime in Ethiopia made great efforts to resolve the country's educational problems and received considerable support from abroad. They developed a education system which gives opportunities in remote rural areas. Did you know that by late 1978, the European Economic Community had contributed US$2.6 million to help with the government's education development plan? For example the German Democratic Republic sent teachers, training specialists, and curriculum development experts. The Soviet Union provided hundreds of scholarships. 1,200 Ethiopian children (aged nine to fifteen years) from poor families who attended two special schools in Cuba for an undetermined period. Other students followed this initial group. Swedish made it possible and helped to construct about 300 schools. The Swedish agency already had contributed to the construction of 7,000 elementary schools.

He was in Sweden too. While he studied French in France he moved towards to study at a French University. The Ethiopian Government payed for his education. To be frank I have never seen a person who has worked so hard then he did. He really wanted to help his country to get out of the crises. Always he talked with great interest, It was great to listen to his stories such as how a cow could give better milk..... His energy was impressing and he would never stop reading more about agrar politics.

Today he returned to Ethiopia to solve the problem that children are having not being able to attend school and not have to worry too much about their parents working in urban areas as farmers. He gives advice and works with them that they can improve their situation. An impressive guy indeed, I shall never forget his energy and it is really wonderful that therr are other country who give those people the opportunity to make a change to their country little by little. I am sure this guy will have the power, the energy and an immense will to do great. If only the strategy of the government will change as well.

I really look up to all of those people who are doing such a great job just like he does. Congratulations!!!

I came across a few outstanding people in my life from various nationalities:

An Ethiopian guy who only wanted to learn as much as possible from all over the world to help his country to have a better standard of living. My eyes were always on his lips to learn all about the interesting things he has explored.

A Japanese guy who got one of my best friends. A very different culture than ours, yet so close to ours. I really love this guy and his wife so much.

On our honeymoon we made a world trip and the poem "East vs. West" was actually what I felt while visiting Vietnam and Cambodia.

"Impression on Mind and Heart" is just a life experience. I came across a Swiss guy with whom I always refused to dance Salsa until the day we met in a Restaurant. A great dancer indeed and a wonderul person.

One of my greatest experience is my dear friend from iceland. I love her and her family with all my heart. My best friend. In honor to her wedding as a bride maid, I wrote the poem "Switzerland calls Iceland"

Last but not least, I want to mention my husban. The essential part of my life. I love him with all my heart, he is the air I breath in and my everything I live for. No poem on this toppic - too private:-)
