Kenyan Present Government and Progress
When the present government came into leadership(in 2002), it brought alongside it a vision for Kenya as a human rights state, meaning that it would put into place mechanisms and processes that would facilitate the promotion of accountability,transparency, inclusive policies and participation in policy development and implementation of programs. There has been progressive change in Kenya to the direction of greater respect and promotion of human rights for all. Specific policy and program geared towards this include;
(1)Introduction of free, compulsory primary education;
(2)The Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation(ERS);
(3)Introduction of the Government Justice, Law and Order sector; that address specific issues within the development paradigm. More specifically through initiatives that have been aligned with Huma rights based approach principles that include sector specific reforms in (a)Implementation of the Roads2000 project in various parts of the country
(b)Addressing Human rights related issues in the Agricultural sector through the National Agriculture and Livestock Extension Program;
(c)Water sector reforms;
(d)health reforms.
All of which have seen engagement with the Civil Society Organizations, Government of Kenya and development partners alike at different levels.
